Medium saucepan – I prefer stainless steel

Unsweetened cocoa powder – natural or Dutch-processed, whatever you have on hand.

Granulated sugar

Pure vanilla extract

Half & half – if you don’t have half & half, you can substitute half heavy cream/half milk preferably, or all whole milk. I prefer the creaminess of half & half or half cream.

In a medium saucepan, add cocoa powder, sugar and vanilla extract. Slowly pour in half and half, whisking well. Add the milk in the same manner.

  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder (24 grams)

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (58 grams)

  • 1.5 tsp pure vanilla extract (6 grams)

  • 1/4 tsp sea salt (1 gram)

  • 1 cup half and half (260 grams)

  • 3 cups whole milk (763 grams)

Directions

  • In a medium saucepan, add cocoa powder, sugar and vanilla extract. Slowly pour in half and half, whisking well. Add the milk in the same manner.
