Ingredients for Homemade Breakfast Sausage Gravy
Bulk breakfast sausage – I prefer mild breakfast sausage. If you’re having trouble finding this at the grocery store, try your local butcher shop.
All purpose flour
Chicken broth – any kind of broth will work. I prefer homemade bone chicken bone broth.
Half & half
Salt and pepper
How to Make Homemade Breakfast Sausage Gravy
Heat a large cast iron skillet over low-medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned, breaking into small chunks with your spatula as it cooks. Drain grease if necessary, but leave a couple tablespoons in the skillet.

Sprinkle flour over the sausage. Cook and stir a minute or two until flour is browned. Add chicken broth a little at a time, stirring well to avoid any clumps. Add half and half in the same manner.

Bring the gravy to a simmer, stirring occasionally, then reduce heat to low and cook until thickened. Add salt and pepper to taste.

If the gravy gets too thick for your liking, thin it down a bit with a splash of half & half or broth. Serve over freshly baked biscuits.
